About Our Awards

J.D. Power and Associates awards are based on responses from millions of consumers and business customers each year who have used the products and services being rated. The syndicated rankings and awards that the firm releases via its press releases to the media are in no way influenced by the opinions or perceptions of J.D. Power itself. We are simply reflecting what the consumers of these products and services think about them.

The awards program provides consumers with information on product quality, customer satisfaction, or other metrics that enable them to make more informed purchasing decision. Additional detail on products and services is provided via JDPower.com

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys consumers around the world to gather their opinions, perceptions, and expectations about the products and services they purchase. This survey information forms the basis for company, product and service rankings or other industry-specific metrics that are used to gauge company performance. Companies that rank highest in the company’s syndicated (industry-wide) studies that have awards associated with them may enter an agreement to use the J.D. Power and Associates name and award icon (trophy) in marketing, advertising, and promotional activities. J.D. Power reviews and approves advertisements that feature its name or study information for clients that are part of the program. J.D. Power name use is governed by a formal agreement and is closely monitored through various media services to ensure that the information is accurate and not misleading to consumers.

Results are based on measures of customer satisfaction and quality by consumers that are proprietary to J.D. Power and Associates. Awards and performance rankings are based on numerical scores, and not necessarily on statistical significance. Our experience indicates that even when small differences occur in the scores of those being measured, these small perceived differences help drive competition in the marketplace, thereby improving product and service quality and driving increases in overall customer satisfaction.
